NDMA Members Appointed to North Dakota Health Council

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum recently appointed two NDMA physicians to serve on the State Health Council.

Members appointed are Melissa J. Henke, MD, medical director for the North Dakota Professional Health Program and the Heartview Foundation and Carrie A. Ranum, MD, a pediatrics specialist for West River Health Services in Hettinger, ND.

The State Health Council serves as the North Dakota Department of Health's governing and advisory body. The council's 9 members are appointed by the governor for three-year terms. Four members are appointed from the health care provider community and five from the public sector.

The council establishes standards, rules and regulations which are found necessary for the maintenance of public health and monitors the quality of health care in North Dakota.

The State Health Council held a meeting on March 1, where State Health Officer Nizar Wehbi presented an organizational structure layout which is slated to become effective in September for the ND Dept. of Human Services and effective in April for the ND Dept. of Health. The reorganizing was necessary due to the departments combining into one agency as enacted by the passing of HB 1247 during the 67th Legislative Assembly.
